3KGroup - a Wi-Fi expert since 1997

Who are we?

The Wi-Fi expert 3KGroup OÜ, which is celebrating over 25 year of operation this year, is an unusual telecommunications and information technology company that has focused exclusively on the field of high-quality wireless Internet. In some years, with our indicators, we even fit into Äripäev's top list of telecommunications companies, which has been a big surprise for us, because we specialize very narrowly on certain field.

Background story

"Most companies operate in a wide range to survive, but we sell, consult and solve only Wi-Fi technology and develop interference-free Wi-Fi networks in Estonia and neighboring EU countries, ” introduces Toomas Kadarpik, CEO of 3KGroup, stating that the company's annual turnover of one million euros is not the desire to sell as much as possible at any cost, but the desire to do their work so deeply and to be an expert who, in addition to information technology, also understands physics and the connections between them.

The radio bug has been with Toomas since childhood. He first got his hands on the antenna and soldering iron in the third grade already. Later, antennas and high-frequency amplifiers were built in dozens, the time called for Toomas to have access to all the Finnish radio stations 60 kilometers from Tallinn at all costs. This required good antenna technology, cabling, and certainly amplifiers because the signal attenuated in the cable. IT people are usually not particularly friendly with radio technology and physics, so even well-known things from physics classes are often misunderstood.

3KGroup set up the first mobile office for Äripäev, giving for the first time an opportunity for a company to work with a laptop anywhere in the office. Although wireless internet was not built into computers at that time, special network cards were used. A radio technology that was once so innovative and exciting is completely elementary today.

"A lot of interesting things have happened in history and we have been lucky enough to get involved in legislation and the development of new technologies. For example, in 2001, telecommunications companies tried to push for the ban on the provision of public Wi-Fi service in Estonia, the only country in the world, for their own benefit. How many state agencies headed by county governments and border guards would have suffered in this case?

The general public understood the importance of license free wireless internet and local area networks in 2002, when the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Rocca al Mare Suurhall event venue and the whole area was covered with high-quality Wi-Fi for both local and foreign guests, ”Kadarpik recalls. "People are afraid of strange new things, and so in 1997 they were still very skeptical, saying that Wi-Fi coverage is very limited and impractical. Today, everyone is convinced of the need for Wi-Fi, but the challenge is to build high-quality solutions that could easily serve small households and even largest crowds with a seamless internet experience. The need to mitigate various interferences in networks of any size has not disappeared. ”

What was a Wi-Fi device like 20 years ago?

However, 25 years ago, life was not so easy, no one believed in wireless technology then, and a mobile phone was an expensive tool for business people rather than a everyday means of communication for schoolchildren. Much has changed over time, but many of the basic problems and skills have remained exactly the same, rather the complexity has increased as standards have evolved incrementally and required the compatibility of old systems all the time.

3KGroup first started distribution of cutting edge WiFi technologies with Lucent Technologies Wi-Fi devices in 2002. At that time it was a very big step forward, where for the first time the devices withstood high-speed indoor operations at initially 2 Mbps and later 11 Mbps. It also dealt with the problem of reflected signals, which is still a major concern today, especially in logistics and large warehouses. At the time, that number was 90 nanoseconds, and to achieve that, a decent diversity receiver with proper signal processing was built into the client device. For the first time, this technique ensured uninterrupted and robust connection quality for a mobile laptop or PDA, Wi-Fi was no longer interrupted when moving around the office, and work could be done moving from one point to another like a nomad. However, the standards of that time were not ready for mobile use and voice transmission.

Client devices were initially implemented as a PCMCIA add-on card and there was no compatibility between different manufacturers, however, the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standard was introduced in 2001, which ensured compatibility between different manufacturers' devices, and built-in Wi-Fi network cards began to appear in laptops and PDAs.

Is our culture undisturbed?

Everyone who lives in today's technological world knows how the causes for stress and depression.

If you've done something a thousand times and then a thousand more times, you may get bored! But there are things that don't bother people and seem natural, but how do you get there? We were not taught this at school because nothing was teached other than willpower and hard work. Over the years, however, it has become clear that these two things do not work together, it is not enough if you are willed and work hard. If at the same time the body and the subconscious still do not want to work together with the emotional consciousness, then nothing good will come out. Health or relationships are messed up and a happy life is out of the question. Money and rewards do not make a situation happy, because if you are constantly making your situation bad and have to fix it somewhere else, then such polar oscillation is not very pleasant.
